If you didn’t know already, I currently live in Munich. Everytime someone comes to visit me I always take them for breakfast at my favourite place!
Cafe Glockenspiel is located in the heart of Munich in Marienplatz, right opposite the famous town hall with it’s Glockenspiel (that plays every day at 11am and 12pm). The cafe/restaurant is hidden high up in a building and is hard to find from outside. That being said, it is still super popular and I reccommend you always reserve a table!

This is why it’s so lovely to have breakfast here if it’s your first time in Munich. You can study the beautiful architecture of the town hall and if you get a table for 10 or 11am you can watch the Glockenspiel play whilst eating your breakfast.
The breakfast offers hot and cold breakfasts. In Germany it’s normal to have brotzeit (bread time) for breakfast. This consists of fresh bread and breadrolls with a spread of cheese, meat, fruit, and homemade jam. There are vegetarian and vegan options available. They also offer a range of egg dishes, french toast, fruit salads, yoghurts, croissants and cakes.

Breakfast at Cafe Glockenspiel averages at about 15/17€ per person with drinks, which I find is an okay price, especially with it’s location.

If you aren’t such a breakfast or brunch person, it’s open for lunch and dinner too. I’ve only ever been for breakfast so can’t say how the rest is.
There are two options of where you want to reserve, in the restaurant or the “wintergarten”. To get the view of the town hall you need to reserve a space in the restaurant. The wintergarten is also a nice place to sit and has a lot of sunshine but it doesn’t have the view.

The staff are quick, friendly and attentive, and they also speak english and offer english menus if your German isn’t up to scratch.
It’s the perfect place to relax, see the Glockenspiel or people watch.
