I was asked for recommendations recently on where to eat and drink in Munich and it dawned on me that this topic would make the most perfect blog posts! I’ve lived in Munich for 12 years now and have tried and tested a lot of restaurants, cafes and bars. If you are heading over here then check out my list, you’ll also find me regularly eating my way through Munich on my instagram stories.
This is my favourite cafe in all of Munich. They’re friendly, there’s outdoor seating in Summer but it’s also so cosy inside on a rainy day, you can bring your laptop and work from there and they do the best oat milk flat whites! They used to do the best waffles but have recently changed their menu (and I shockingly haven’t had time to go try it out yet, it does still sound amazing though). You can’t book a table in advance but I have always managed to find a seat – it’s definitely worth a visit!

This is a slightly hidden cafe directly at Karlsplatz in the department store Oberpollinger – located on the second floor, it’s quite quiet and I have never had to reserve a table in advance. They are a completely vegan cafe that offer salads, bowls and pasta. The huge windows are perfect for people watching (although if you want a better view, head to the rooftop restaurant on the top floor). This one is a great place to have a break while shopping in the city centre.

Another slightly hidden coffee shop, nestled in between the buildings near the Universität U Bahn. I love their decor and vibe and even though it does get busy I have always found a seat (they also have outdoor seating in Summer). If you like a good matcha latte that isn’t too sweet then this is the place for you, and try their halloumi bowl while you’re at it!

Kaffeerösterei Viktualienmarkt
A central coffee shop located directly in Viktualienmarkt, this place is perfect if you want a coffee to go or have one while standing at their high tables. Their cappuccinos with oat milk are one of the best and although they are technically a stand at the market, they still managed to hang chandeliers, giving it a lot of charm.

Let me know if you visit any on this list! I will be writing some more posts with restaurants and bars so stay tuned.
